If you are ready for it get going....

Hey, I really did not mean to discourage you. I know you got it in you and you can do it too.First I wanted the younger persons to know that there is more to life than just going to business school and you must enjoy what you do later.

Well not all successful busininess men had a business degree but it helps. One should not be under the inpression that business education is not at all helpful. Certainly what others learn through experience B.schools equip you with it. That does not mean that after B.School you know everything. . So dont' change your mind if you have been thinking about it. Once you decide, go all the way for it. No second thoughts at all ! You tell yourself that you have got in you. I would start early, may be even in my early degree studies. You need to decide where you will study, which country? You can go to bus school in many countries it depends on your ability to pay for it. Doing it at your own expense can be expensive if your are an international student. For many students bank loans are available. Again it is always better for you to assess yourself the type of school you fit into. If you have very good grades generally and tend to top the class or somewhere near that you can opt for ivy league schools like standford, Harvard, Columbia, Wharton in USA. In UK too there are very good schools. Many European schools are good. You need to see that the medium of instruction is English if you are going to a non english speaking country. In India the Indian Institutes of Management are considered good. There are six of them st Ahmedabad. Calcutta, Banglalore, Lucknow, Indore and Kozhikode. There are some new ones coming up now. There are also private ones like Management Development Institute (MDI), SP Jain, Symbiosis, Bajaj and so on. It is possible for foreign students to take some courses in these places in the exchange programs. You need to take GMAT if you plan to go to schools outside India or if you are coming to India from another country. If you are Indian living in India you need to take the CAT exam. Both are somewhat similar and test your comprehension and analytical skills. You should strengthen your vocabulary and English language. Better read a lot of books. This is something that should be cultivated from the very early days. Also better to be reasonably good in math. If you are not, better strengthen it now. The admission tests tend to have a fair amount of math in them. Also once you are in the course there will be some subjects that are quite quantitative in nature. A good score is very essential to get into a good school. There are a lot places where some coahing is given. This will help to some extent but you have to put in a good effort yourself. Apart from getting a good job business schools do have an influence on our personlities I believe.I found many students when they come and during interviews a bit less confident about themselves but emerge fairly confident after they finish the school. During your preparations for business school you need to make sure you have good general knowledge too. This would be handy in interviews in Indian schools.

Now a days even for those who are employed there are plenty business programs tailored to fit many situations. IIMs in India have executive programs which are partially residential, Columbia, Berkeley and many other schools abroad have such programs too

Though externally the syllabus looks similar in all schools there can be considerable difference in the way the subjects are taught. In a place like Harvard emphasis is on case studies, in Standford it could be quantitative. In India the IIMs to have some differences between them .If you are particular in avoiding quantitative approach better not go for that type of schools and get into a muddle. Some schools may get you ready more for consulting. This whole preparation takes time.It helps to do good homework and talk to some one who know about these schools.

Further as we go we can talk more on the professional mangement aspects. All the best to you.
